- Description
- This chapter aims to identify the impacts of light pollution. Light pollution is a new phenomenon of modern civilization. Artificial light is important for human civilization. However, the impacts of artificial light pollution have social, economic, and environmental impacts. The excessive or unplanned use of artificial light may significantly affect human life, wildlife, and plant species. The disturbance of sleep due to artificial light affects human health. The skyglow may affect the aesthetic value of the sky at night. Artificial light pollution may cause the reduction of insects and affect the food chain of wildlife. There is also the impact of artificial light pollution on plant species due to variation in the duration of light. This chapter describes some challenges relating to the increasing light pollution. Finally, recommendations were made to address artificial light pollution.
